Playwriting

I began playwriting when I was head of drama and needed fun and intelligent plays for children aged 6 to 13. I started writing ridiculous pantomimes and pastiche musicals which the children loved performing and the audiences enjoyed watching.

This invaluable experience gave me the confidence that I could produce my own work after graduating from drama school. Since graduating I have been professionally commissioned to adapt 'Lorna Doone' for The Pleasure Dome Theatre Company, written a one woman show, 'Womb to tomb', adapted Shakespeare plays, and written other monologues and sketches that have been performed around the London fringe.

Lorna Doone

Having worked as an actress with The Pleasure Dome Theatre Company for 3 productions I was commissioned to write a new adaptation of Lora Doone.

The company performs outdoors in the north of Devon and includes local actors as well as professionals. This meant that the adaptation had to include an ensemble feel, roles that could be doubled up and scenes that could be easily portrayed outdoors with minimal set and props. The challenge was set and in 2019 my first professional play was performed in the Valley of Rocks.

Professional Monologues

I have written and performed many monologues around the London Fringe.

I like the intimacy and the immediacy of monologues. You have such a short time to make a character and effect an audience.

Adaptations

Adapting classical texts is an absolute pleasure. I have written for a wide range of performers, and specialise in youth and children’s theatre. My adaptations include: Much ado about nothing, As you like it, the Odyssey and many fairy tales in the form of pantos. I try to make these adaptations as flexible as possible so they can be performed by large or small ensemble casts. The Odyssey being performed by the biggest cast of just under 80 children! I have experience of working with groups to help them develop and devise their own performances and have lead writing workshops.
